Show Me Rambling; My thoughts on Collecting

2005 Silver Eagle 2006 Reverse Proof

Are you an Eagle Collector or Eagle accumulator? What started as selling silver bullion to the public has now become a very popular collector's series. Unlike the gold bullion coinage, silver coins, which everyone can afford, are readily available for the many special occasions occurring in our lives. For me, accumulating Silver Eagles for my three grandchildren is only a part of my collection of Silver Eagles. The Mint continues to amaze all of us with the new Eagles produced. The "reverse proof" Silver Eagle has sparked an even greater interest with the limited edition coins availability only in a set of 3 Silver Eagles celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the introduction of the 1 ounce silver bullion coins in 1986.

We probably have Canada to thank for "jump starting" the United States Bullion Coin evolution. Their one ounce Gold Maple Leaf and fractional bullion coins became a Worldwide hit. The United States Mint began Gold and Silver Eagle production in 1986 and became an instant hit with collectors from around the World. A one ounce silver bullion coin is currently over $17 but these one ounce coins may also be worth $4500+ numismatically. The 3 eagle set I described earlier is now 5 times its mint selling price.

April 15 update. Well the impossible happened; Gold over $1000 an ounce, Silver over $20. Ads all over the place for "turning your old gold into cash" Even the Mint melted some of the gold coins that were being stored. Now how many President Wives, Jamestown and San Francisco  Comemmorative are out there. I guess the gold Bald Eagle Comemmoratives will be next.

Silver Eagles uncirculated are well over $25 each, When did you pay $500 for a roll of new Silver Eagle.

For whatever reason you collect Silver Eagles , enjoy!

September 2007 State quarter collecting has one, maybe two years before the end. A Washington D.C.quarter? The Presidential Dollars are into the 4th President and it seems by the "no news" news, that the Philadelphia got it right. There still may be more of Washington and Adams Rim Problems to go if collectors, like myself, finally open the rolls of P-dollars we put away. A picture of the rim mistake is below.
